Most playgrounds ban smoking to protect children from the hazards of secondhand smoke. However, many park planning committees erroneously assume that providing Ash Urns in public spaces encourages smoking. It actually encourages responsible waste management. Not only are cigarettes hazardous to the health of children, but cigarette butts also present a potential fire hazard if not disposed of properly. This is especially true in dry areas that are prone to grass and forest fires during drought periods, such as California, Nevada and Texas. Include ash urns in your park or playground to enhance safety and save on maintenance and clean-up costs by making it easy for people to dispose of their cigarette waste. If smoking is a problem near your playground, consider creating a designated smoking area with our bench seating, picnic tables, and receptacles, to encourage smokers to hang out elsewhere, away from children at play.
